Environment

environment imageImproving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Propane as a fleet transportation fuel can make a contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.

Propane as a transportation fuel is more environmentally friendly than gasoline or diesel, emitting less greenhouse gases than conventional gasoline and significantly fewer emissions of criteria air contaminants and air toxics that impact air quality and human health.

Numerous studies have shown that airborne particles cause serious health problems and negatively impact society. The Ontario Medical Association estimates that air pollution results in almost 5,800 premature deaths and 17,000 hospital admissions in a single year, in Ontario alone.

School boards have been particularly interested in these health effects and not surprisingly, have been early adopters to propane conversion. School bus fleets that convert to propane reduce children’s exposure to toxic diesel exhaust and save millions of dollars in the process.
